Amish Baked Oatmeal Recipe

Amish Baked Oatmeal Recipe Amish Baked Oatmeal Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 4

Meet the Cook: The first time I had this treat was at a bed-and-breakfast in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. To me, it tasted just like a big warm-from-the-oven oatmeal cookie! I'm a pastor's wife. We have three children - ages 8, 6 and 2. -Colleen Butler, Inwood, West Virginia

Very tasty recipe! Definitely a little more on the sweet side. Next time I will cut back on the sugar.

My family thought this was far too sweet ~ and we didn't add any extra milk or sugar at serving. This is a great starter recipe.. way too much sugar & butter for such a small amount of oats!! It's more of a mushy dessert/cookie recipe than a healthy breakfast. Next time I'll leave out the butter & salt, use double the amount of old fashioned oats, add a 1 cup of water and cut the sugar in half.

I make this all the time, since I found it on here. The only difference I do is add brown sugar instead of regular sugar, and I bake it in a smaller dish, such as a muffin loaf pan. It is delicious! I am not a fan of regular oatmeal, but trying it this way made me crave it all the time.

My family loved this. I doubled the recipe and used applesauce for half of the margarine. I also added 1 cup of blueberries and 1 apple. Next time I'll sweeten the warm milk to serve it with. Very good.

This is delicious, hot or cold. I did add about 1 1/2 cups frozen berries, and it was great. The only problem is that I don't know how they got 6 servings out of this! Maybe for a light snack. My husband, two year old daughter and I almost ate an entire pan for one breakfast, and I wouldn't say we are excessive eaters in the least. It comes out very thin, so I think next time I will double the recipe and still make it in a 13x9.

My family loves this recipe. My husband asks for it all the time. They say it tastes like sugar cookies in milk.

I've been making this for years, but I add in 1 cup blueberries & one apple peeled & chopped, so the fruit bakes right in!!

such a delious start to a cold winter morning, & for added special touch, we top it with maple syrup!!

We love love love this recipe!! My teenage kids ask for it often. It is also great as leftovers. I usually double and even quadruple to have lots left over. Yum.

This is the answer for all the kids who hate hot cereal! (And all the adults bored with it.) We had it this morning and we all enjoyed the crunchy taste. This would be a great economical "cold cereal" also, because if you add cold milk it isn't hot any more. If you want it hot, use warmed milk. An added bonus: no pot to watch!

I can't rave enough about this recipe! My family has been enjoying it for years. Do try it with sliced bananas and warmed milk. (even if you don't care for bananas)
