Amish Baked Oatmeal Recipe

Meet the Cook: The first time I had this treat was at a bed-and-breakfast in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. To me, it tasted just like a big warm-from-the-oven oatmeal cookie! I'm a pastor's wife. We have three children - ages 8, 6 and 2. -Colleen Butler, Inwood, West Virginia

This barely covered the bottom of the pan and was very crumbly when served. The milk poured over the top just made it mushy. One kid did like it . . . but she really likes bland simple food. We didn't like the texture.

This recipe was decent, however, it was really thin and therefore was not quite like oatmeal or a cookie.

I too love this recipe! But, in order to make it a little healthier I cut the amount of sugar in half. I have found even with the sugar cut in 1/2 it is still plenty sweet enough! I have also cut the butter in half and add a little more milk to compensate for the liquid. Very good with any kind of fruit you can add, fresh or frozen. Wonderful breakfast dish for overnight guests at the holidays if you're tired of egg bakes! Very quick and east, it is warning and filling.

Oatmeal is not one of my husband's favorite breakfast,(it is for me) until I baked this one.

Now, he asks for it. It is wonderful, I added cinnamon and raisins. We have at least twice a week. Thank you so much.

I usually make a recipe that I got from a B&B in PA but I was out of evaporated milk. I did not care for this recipe at all. I mixed fresh/frozen blueberries which added all the flavor. Seeing all the good reviews, I a wondering if I done something wrong (:

This is a very good switch up for breakfast. Although the original recipe is a little bland, especially if you don't have fresh fruit laying around. I added 1 medium chopped apple, golden raisins, dried cranberrys, chopped dried apricots, chopped dates and just a splash of unsweetened apple juice. Just follow the rest of the recipe (I doubled mine) and enjoy!!

Baked oatmeal - YUM!

I cut down on the sugar by half and used 3 tablespoons of maragarine, instead of the quarter cup called for.

In addition, I added 2 small, thinly sliced apples anda half cup of frozen blueberries.

I double it, and love it!

Add dried fruit (cranberries, cherries, blueberries, etc.)and chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) before baking to add more nutrition and flavor. This can be kept a few days and microwaved in single servings as wanted. Delicious!!

This was totally delicious! I substituted brown sugar for the white sugar on accident but decided I liked it better that way. I serve it with fresh warm tapioca pudding with bananas with whipped cream. It is amazing! Thank you for this keeper!
