Almond Cheddar Appetizers Recipe

Almond Cheddar Appetizers Recipe Almond Cheddar Appetizers Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 5

Meet the Cook: I always try to have a supply of these on hand in the freezer. If guests drop in, I just pull out and reheat some. You can serve them as a snack, for brunch or along with a lighter lunch. My husband and I have three married daughters, four grandsons and another grandchild on the way. -Linda Thompson, Southampton, Ontario

I have been making this for years - known to us as simply "Mrs. Vickers" - I have always made it on bread slices but will try it on a french stick next time - I generally have them in my freezer -if there are any left -and friends ask me to bring these to their "Appie" parties - great 'go to' recipe.

Fabulous! Lots of great comments from guests. I served on rye cocktail bread.

Used Hormel turkey bacon bits ( first time I have Used) and mini ciabatta rolls. Just the right amount of crunch. Most excellent!

This recipe is a definate crowd pleaser. The family met at a time share and Pot Lucked Christmas this year. This was the favorite hot appetizer. Favorite for me because of the make ahead ease and favorite for the family because it is delicious. I made up all the ingredients (except the bread) and placed in a zip lock baggie. Then I took the loaf of bread out of the bag and sliced it into 1/2" slices and returned to the bag, twist tied it and took it to the timeshare to bake it. I never bothered slicing the bread slices again. That is a waste of time because EVERY ONE ate more than the equivilant of of a half slice! I used green onion and like a few others have mentioned used Hormel real bacon bits. I did cut the mayonaise a tad too. I just added enough for spreadability. I don't think you can go wrong here.

The mayo base was too much - very greasy. Next time, I'll try half mayo and half sour cream.

My guest loved it. I thought it needed a bit of tweeking. So I made this with extra sharp cheese (kraft) whick I grated on a box grater. The extra sharp chese is MUCH betterr. Next time I will try a better brand of extra sharp cheese. I also think that adding 1/2 to 3/4 more worcestershire adds a depth of flavor. I used 1/2 of a medium onion as other suggested. For the bacon, I used center cut bacon, which yeilds more meat and lesds fat. It worked well. LOVE the make ahead convience of this. .

A very tasty and easy appetizer. I used 6 - 8 tbsp Oscar Mayer real bacon bits & a small onion. Will definitely make again!

I made these appetizers for a special family gathering and they went very quickly. I made extra to put in the freezer to use when we have guests over and they have always been a huge hit.

to make even easier....I used handful or two of REAL bacon bits from Sams club (not the hard bacon bits)! why fry bacon if you don't have too - also small onion

These were a hit at a small holiday get together, and or guest could not get enough of them! The only problem I encountered was that the bread I bought (a french baguette from Trader Joe's) fell apart too easily, but with a better bread they would be perfect.

A big hit with everyone. Easy to make. I do cook them a little longer, probably because I use more topping on each slice of bread.

I made these before, the recipe I used named them Mary Vickers. Always a hit.

In order to reduce the fat content of these I used fat free mayo, reduced fat cheddar, and Hormel real bacon bits in a jar. They were a huge hit.
