Camp Taco SaladTo adapt our favorite taco salad recipe for camping, I cook the ground beef at home until no longer pink. I also combine lettuce, cheese and diced tomatoes in a resealable bag. On site, I simmer the meat with a can of chili beans, then add a packet of taco seasoning with water. Come time to eat, top tortilla chips with the meat/bean mixture and other fixings. —Susan W., Minot AFB, North Dakota More Mexican Side Dishes »

we do this at the office. we put the cooked, seasoned meat, beans, onions, and tomatoes together. After using half one day, we were able to store overnight and use again the next day. we just added the chips and lettuce and dressing as needed. hmmm, bet you could freeze it that way, too!

As some people mentioned below, if you choose to toss the salad in a plastic bag, it should be a food-safe bag, such as a 2 gallon resealable bag. An actual trash bag should not be used due to possible chemicals on the bag.Taste of Home Test Kitchen

how funny, two of us posted on this at the same time, a year later. A person has to learn somewhere, we aren't born knowing everything, regardless of what Socrates says...
Well, I was going to put it in a trash bag! I don't know these things, so I'm glad that it was posted not to use a real trash bag. I just thought those white bags were fine. :(

I know one would assume, people would notice the quotes and not use a real trash bag, however someone in our office actually made this salad in an actual trash bag.

Ithink everyone knows not to use an actual trash bag! Hence the quotes around trash bag in the name. GEEZ! lol

I bought small individual bags of Frito Chips, gave one to each child at a birthday party. Had all the ingredients of this recipe in bowls, and they went through buffet style and added to their bag what they wanted with the corn chips. used forks to mix it all together. It worked great, no mess and easy clean up! They were allowed to have two bags if they wanted. Kids and adult liked this. Served apple sauce with this. Then a few games the ice cream and B-day cake!!

Fast and easy great salad! I dont usually like Tex-Mex, but I liked this a lot! A 2 gallon Ziploc bag works fine. Add the corn chips just before serving so they dont get soggy. I also pared it down to family size.

Simple and really good. A nice change from regular tacos. This has become a dish we make regularly.

I make this in stainless steel canning kettle. Mix together just before serving. Is awesome presentation and tastes GREAT!

Garbage bags are treated with chemicals and perfumes - I wouldn't suggest putting dinner to eat in a garbage bag.
