China Cabinet

We installed a china cabinet with glass shelves and a display light to show off my good dishes. A friend and I created the decorative stained glass window for the door. Visitors are always amazed to find out I made it myself!

We built in convenience, too. The base cabinets feature handy slide-out drawers, as does the cupboard above the refrigerator where I store my table linens. Our durable speckled veneer countertops and ceramic tile floor make cleaning up a breeze, too.

I love my deep ivory-toned sink and matching faucet. We moved the sink to a corner so I can gaze out the windows to my right and left as I work. After a long shift at the hospital where I'm a registered nurse in neonatal intensive care, it's so relaxing to look out at our flowers, fields and the woods beyond.

The lighting in the old kitchen created lots of shadows that made it difficult to see what I was doing. Recessed ceiling lights solved that problem. We also hung an antique light fixture at one end of the room. The new ceiling fan reflects the rest of the decor, featuring oak blades and a verdigris finish.

Jeff, who works in telecommunications, handled much of the renovation. Luckily, laying the floor was the final step because it was more difficult than expected. I think he would have given up if he had tackled it first.

Terri, Jeff and Mandy

Now, he's as pleased with the new kitchen as I am, and the kids enjoy congregating there when friends stop by.

It was certainly worth the wait. I'm glad I could share my kitchen with you!
