Pizza: The Cheese Issue

cheese

The real problem with pizza is the saturated fat found in cheese. A normal serving of pizza with full-fat cheese contains around 7 g of saturated fat and nearly 13 g of total fat! That's before any toppings, crust or sauce.

The obvious healthier choices are to use reduced or fat-free products or to simply use less cheese. If you use all reduced-fat cheese, you'll still get nearly 6 g of saturated fat per serving. And choosing fat-free cheese typically gives you an inferior product that doesn't melt very well.

The smarter option is to use half fat-free cheese and half reduced-fat cheese. By doing this, you'll have tasty pizza with plenty of cheese and less than 3 g of saturated fat in the cheese per serving.
