Many of our favorite vegetable and fruit salad recipes call for a sprinkling of toasted pecans or almonds on top. On one occasion when I was out of nuts, I used broken pretzel pieces instead.
I crumbled a handful of pretzels on a microwave-safe plate and toasted them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. (Be careful to watch carefully to prevent burning.)
The pretzels added fewer calories and less fat but kept the crunch in the salad. Best of all, the substitution was a hit with my family. Joyce L., Davison, Michigan
