Here's a sun-sational way to chase the midwinter blues from your table: Enter our "Celebrating Citrus" recipe contest.
Your recipes can use fresh or canned citrus, including sweet and juicy oranges, blood oranges, tangerines, clementines, lemons, limes or grapefruit.
Consider eye-opening citrus treats that add zest to breakfast. Serve up baked French toast with orange custard sauce, frozen citrus fruit cups, caramelized grapefruit and blood orange smoothies. Breads and baked goods qualify, too—from citrus streusel tea bread and orange coconut crescents to lemon curd coffee cake.
We're also looking for main dishes that showcase these tangy fruits. So bring on the lemon roasted chicken, stir-fried beef with orange, herbed flounder with lemon butter and duck with orange marmalade sauce. Tempt our tasters with side dishes like honeydew lime soup, lemony Brussels sprouts and orange roasted winter veggies.
And yes, we'll squeeze in dessert—maybe tangerine rice pudding, lemon meringue kisses, key lime cheesecake bars andlemon mint mousse. Other appealing entries could range from spicy orange hummus and Texas citrus salsa to refreshing maple lemonade.
Surprise us with all kinds of sun-kissed favorites. We'll announce the winners in the February/March 2013 issue of Country Woman.
